Skilled migration program
Overview
Australia has a range of visas that allow skilled workers to come to Australia to live and work and use their skills.
Short stay work visas allow you to work in Australia for a short period of time, either in a specialist area or while you undertake seasonal work on a temporary basis.
Temporary or Provisional skilled visas allow you to work in Australia in a skilled role for a longer period. Some of these visas provide a pathway to permanent residence for applicants who meet certain requirements.
Permanent skilled visas are for migrants who make valuable economic contributions and fill skill shortages in the labour market. If you are granted a permanent skilled visa you become an Australian permanent resident.
